For the Week of October 14th, 2012, we conducted a brief bird survey along the Sycamore trail. Here’s what we found. See if you can add to this list on your trip through the refuge! American crow, Northern flicker, Red bellied woodpecker, Downy woodpecker, Mourning dove, Eastern meadowlark, Northern Bobwhite (quail), Crested caracara, Northern mockingbird, Turkey vulture, Carolina wren, Northern cardinal, Eastern phoebe, Great horned owl, Scissor-tailed flycatcher, Tufted titmouse, Sprague’s pipit, White-crowned sparrow, Northern harrier, Yellow warbler, Other: Eastern coachwhip
NOTE: Attwater’s Prairie Chickens HAVE been seen recently on the auto tour route, usually late in the evenings just prior to sunset or early in the mornings.
